SALAD DRESSINGS

Q: 32oz Sesame Dressing - Maximum Flavor Tips (Please Read)

A: BEFORE YOU OPEN THIS BOTTLE — Maximum Flavor Tips [PLEASE READ]

Due to the large size and weight of our 32oz Sesame Dressing bottle, we recommend the “Pour Off” method below for ensuring flavorful pours out of a brand new bottle. If our Sesame Dressing isn’t shaken well, the first few pours out of a brand new bottle will be oily and bland tasting.  Please use the CONTACT form if you have any questions about this!

MAXIMIZE THE FLAVOR OF YOUR FIRST SERVING BY USING ONE OF THESE METHODS:

“POUR OFF” METHOD  [Easier, less effort and faster]

Note:  This method reduces the amount of oil available in our 32oz bottle during the first pour.  It is possible to pour too much oil out of a new bottle, yielding a bland, oily, less flavorful taste (see our 1-star reviews on Amazon!). The oil and vinegar in our Sesame Dressing separate almost instantly; therefore, it can be difficult to achieve a good mixture due to the large size and weight of our 32oz bottle. When the oil and vinegar separate, the oil rises to the top and is the first to be poured out of the bottle, yielding a less than flavorful pour.

  • Step #1. Allow oil and vinegar to separate completely, do NOT shake the bottle.
  • Step #2. Remove all seals and cap and carefully pour off 2-3 tablespoons (or more) of oil into a small container; the oil will be on TOP of the vinegar mixture. This delicious sesame oil blend can be added back to taste or saved for cooking your favorite stir fry dish!
  • Step #3. Tighten cap and shake VERY well before serving. We recommend alternating between vigorous shaking and very short pours.

“SHAKE WELL” METHOD [Harder, requires more physical effort and patience]

Note:  This method relies on good hand strength and quick pouring to ensure a proper mix of oil and vinegar during each pour.  A common cause of bland, oily, less flavorful pours is a combination of under-shaking and too-slow pouring.  The oil and vinegar in our Sesame Dressing separate almost INSTANTLY; it can be difficult to achieve a good mixture due to the large size and weight of our 32oz bottle.  You must be willing to shake like crazy and then pour in very short spurts.  Remember: when the oil and vinegar separate, the oil rises to the top and is the first to be poured out of the bottle, yielding a less than flavorful pour

  • Step #1. Remove outer shrink seal AND undercap seal. This step is CRITICAL.  It is very common to shake well, only to forget to remove the outer and inner seals.  In the amount of time it takes to remove the seals, the dressing has already completely separated…yielding a pour that is nearly ALL oil.
  • Step #2. Tighten cap and shake VIGOROUSLY for 8-10 seconds (literally!). This is a lot longer than you think!
  • Step #3. Remove cap and pour QUICKLY, less than one second (literally!). A very short pour ensures the oil and vinegar stay mixed.  A long, deliberate pour gives enough time for the oil and vinegar to separate, yielding a less flavorful pour…do not pour slowly!
  • Step #4. Repeat steps 2-3 as needed.

Additional notes:

  • The “POUR OFF” METHOD is only used ONCE for a NEW bottle (only the first serving). Afterwards, you should be able to achieve a flavorful pour by just shaking well like normal.
  • We recommend making a habit of using the “SHAKE WELL” METHOD throughout the entire bottle since this will always result in the best mixture and best flavor of our Sesame Dressing (long shaking and intermittent short pours).
  • As an alternative, you can purchase the smaller 12oz bottle instead. We rarely ever receive any complaints about “bland, oily” pours from the 12oz bottle (practically none).  This bottle is much narrower and lighter, so it is easier to grip and shake well.
  • PROPER SHAKING TECHNIQUE: we recommend holding the bottle in the middle and rapidly rotating it from side-to-side in an oscillating motion.  Shaking in an up-and-down motion does not yield good mixing results.
Q: Do you ship to Alaska and Hawaii?

A: No. Sorry, but we are unable to ship to Alaska or Hawaii. If you are still interested in receiving our products at your address, please visit Feast From The East products on Amazon.com. Amazon fulfillment centers are able to ship our products to Alaska and Hawaii.

Q: I just purchased a big 32oz bottle of Sesame Dressing and it has very little flavor and tastes mostly like oil…did you change the recipe?
A: No, we definitely have not changed the recipe! Our Sesame Dressing can be difficult to mix properly, especially in the 32oz bottle due to its weight and large size. We highly recommend pouring off 1-3 tablespoons of the oil in a brand new bottle to avoid an oily first pour; the oil can be added back to taste or you can save for cooking. Alternatively, you can also try switching between shaking VERY vigorously for 10 seconds and then making very quick, short pours; this will ensure a proper mixture of oil and a more flavorful salad. It’s only necessary to do this for the first half of a new 32oz bottle. This method can be more difficult for people with smaller hands.
Q: Where is the expiration date printed on your salad dressings?
A: The “Best Used By” date code for our salad dressings is printed directly on the bottle, above the label and just below the neck. Shaking the bottle really well will lighten the color of our dressing and make the date code much easier to read. The date code is NOT printed on the label.
Q: Where should I store an unopened bottle of your salad dressing?
A: We recommend storing an unopened bottle of salad dressing in a dark cabinet. Long term storage in the refrigerator may cause the oils in our salad dressing to solidify; if this happens, warm the dressing by letting it sit out at room temperature for a few hours. Do not heat in the microwave.
Q: My dressing has developed large white clumps in the refrigerator…is it spoiled? Has it gone bad?
A: No. What you are seeing is oil that has crystallized (solidified) due to prolonged storage at very cold temperatures. This is a normal property of the oils we use in our salad dressing. If this ever happens, warm the dressing by letting it sit out at room temperature for a few hours. Do not heat in the microwave. If you still have concerns about your dressing, please give us a call and we’ll send you a replacement bottle.
Q: How long can I keep your salad dressing after it has been opened?
A: Our salad dressings will last at least until the “Best Used By” date printed on the bottle. Consistent storage in the refrigerator can extend the shelf life of our dressings well beyond the printed “Best Used By” date.
Q: Where can I buy your salad dressings at a local grocery store?
A: Please use the store locator found on our WHERE TO BUY page. In general, we do not have distribution of our salad dressings to any grocery stores located outside of California, with the exception of a few stores in Washington state and Oregon, and several in the Bay Area of Northern California. Most of our distribution is concentrated in Southern California grocery markets and club stores.

SALAD TOPPINGS

Q: What is the shelf life of your salad toppings?
A: The salad toppings are manufactured with an 8 month expiration date code. Please refer to the “Best By” date printed on the front of an unopened package. After opening, we recommend discarding after a few weeks when they start to become stale.
Q: Where is the expiration date printed on your salad toppings?
A: The “Best By” expiration date is printed on the front of the package.
Q: Where should I store an unopened package of your salad toppings?
A: Store in a dark cool place like a pantry or cupboard. Definitely keep away from direct sunlight or heat sources – this will cause the oils to develop off-flavors quicker.
Q: How long can I keep a package of your salad toppings after it has been opened?
A: An opened package of salad toppings can last for a few weeks as long as it has been properly sealed with a chip clip or binder clip. The toppings will eventually become stale the more they are exposed to air and they could develop off flavors due to oxidation of the oils.

Q: Do your salad toppings contain any “major food allergen” ingredients?
